Household Hazardous Waste (Paint & Chemicals) Collection - Dec. 5th
Wachusett Regional Recycling Center to Hold First Collection of Household Paints and Chemicals
The first collection of household hazardous paints and chemicals at the new Wachusett Regional Recycling Collection Center at 131 Raymond Huntington Highway will be held from 9 A.M. to 1 P. M. on Saturday, December 5.

The collection is a cooperative effort of Wachusett Earthday, the Department of Conservation and Recreation and seven Wachusett towns at the new site on Raymond Huntington Highway in West Boylston.  The Collection Site is also supported by a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection.

Residents of the Towns of Boylston, Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling and West Boylston only are invited to participate in the collection. Please bring evidence of residency. Residents will pay a fee for the cost of disposal of the household hazardous paints and chemicals. 

The first collection on Saturday, December 5 will accept oil paint and other paint products such as paint thinners, varnishes, solvents, strippers, wood preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers, kerosene, gasoline, swimming pool chemicals, aerosols, rubber cement,airplane glue, fiberglass resins, photo chemicals,chemistry sets, metal polishes, mothballs, oven and drain cleaners,rug and upholstery cleaners, spot removers, septic tank degreasers, carburetor cleaner, brake fluid, car waxes, coal tar driveway sealer, moisture cured urethane, roofing tar, solvents, adhesives, motor oil and antifreeze.

Do not bring latex paint. It is not classified as hazardous and may be discarded with regular trash.  Before placing it in the trash dry it out by leaving the can open or adding kitty litter or another absorbent material. You do not need to bring latex paint to the household hazardous products collection. The following materials will NOT be accepted: commercial or industrial waste, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, medical wastes, radioactive wastes, insulation, asbestos and shock sensitive materials.

ONLY household chemicals and paints will be accepted at the December 5 collection for a fee.
Full-load of 10 gallons plus 20 pounds is $50
Half-load of 5 gallons plus 10 pounds is $30
Individual gallon or pound is $5
Additional quantities will have fee proportional to costs listed above.

Additional collections of other recycling and bulk items will be held beginning early in 2010.  

The Wachusett Regional Recycling Collection Center is located at 131 Raymond Huntington Highway, a street which parallels I-190.  In Sterling the street is Legg Road where it begins at Route 140 near Sterling Greenery.  In West Boylston the street is Raymond Huntington Highway where it begins near the West Boylston/Holden town line at Laurel Street, West Boylston and Manning Street, Holden.  The Collection Center is in West Boylston on northwest side of the street.  From, I-190, exit 5 , the collection is approximately 1 mile away.
